Instructions for written assignments

Format:

Please use the type-in manuscript paper genkoo-yooshi for the Japanese text (MS Word)　at the following URL.

Length: one page (strictly observed)

• How to use genkoo-yooshi
• Type in horizontally.
• Use Header to insert the title with the quotation marks 「　　　　」 and your name above the first line .
• Leave one box empty at the beginning of each paragraph.
• Use one box for 。、ゃ・ゅ・ょ・っ
• Do not start a line with 。or 、.
• Please use Header to include the title 「　　　」and your name.

Please submit English translation of each assignment using a separate MS Word document.

Style

Please use writing style unless instructed otherwise.

• Writing style
• Use casual forms.
• Do not use - desu, -masu forms
• Use - da, -datta, -dearu, -deatta, -ru, -ta, -I, -katta
• Use of renyoo-chuushi-kee 連用中止形　yomi, kaki, hanashi, ....
• Do not use honorifics unless necessary.
• Do not use colloquial structures, expressions and vocabulary.

Please feel free to use available software or apps for writing and translation to improve your writing.
You cannot ask someone to write your assignment or ask someone to proof-read it. That would constitute breach of the academic honesty policy.

Submission

Please upload assignments to the drop box on eClass.

Feeback: colour-coded

Your writing assignments (draft version) will be returned to you with the following colour codes depending on the errors or
suggested improvement. Please rewrite the draft and submit the final version for assessment.

Rewriting

You have two weeks to rewrite the colour-coded draft upon receiving it from the instructor.
The final version must be submitted on line and the hand-written version in class.

Late submission

Late submission might be allowed for special circumstances with the instructor’s discretion - illness, accident, death in the family, etc.

Late submission could be subject to penalty (5% reduction per day).
